Spreading your art with Facebook

promote your art on facebookA Facebook “business page”, also known as a “fan page” is a great way to introduce others to your art as well as stay connected with people who already love what you create. Even if you’ve been active on Facebook on a personal level, you can quickly include a separate business page with ease – and it’s FREE!

To get started making your own Facebook business page:

  1. Goto Facebook Create a Page
Here you’ll choose your business type, give your page a title and choose to have the page accessible to the public or private.
  2. Now you’ve got an empty business page ready for content.
Add your photo, or company logo
update your “info” from the info tab
  3. Invite people to “fan” your page.

Once you have a page ready and people are choosing to follow you as a fan, you need to get involved and interact. Here are a few ways you can use Facebook to get your fans involved:

  • Post regular updates and news infos – what are you working on, where can your art be seen, etc.
  • Announce Upcoming events  and report on past events – remember to share pictures.
  • Introduce new items – don’t show off all your new secret designs, but let your fans know what’s up in your world of art and creativity.
  • Feature products or services for those that may not be familiar with all you offer
  • Add photos of your work and places your work is displayed. Share information about things your fans might find interesting
  • Hold contests
  • Ask for feedback

A few things to remember to include on your fan page:

  • If you offer commission work or contract work, make sure you have contact information readily available on your page
  • Link to your website and blog
  • Show a sampling of your work – don’t assume everyone who becomes your fan is familiar with what you create. Sometimes people fan a page because their friend became a fan first.
  • Your company or artist name – if your work is branded under a name other than your own name, make sure your brand your page accordingly

Keep in mind, the goal is to create interaction and interest with your fans. Talk with them and then listen. It’s ok to post things not specifically a part of your art as long as you’re keeping with the personality/spirit of your page. Share with your fans things you find entertaining and engaging relating to your industry or market. Maybe include a how to, or a demo of something relating to your art. Share some history or art from artists you admire. Regardless of what you talk about on your page,  keep your page relatively professional, leaving your personal conversations for your standard facebook profile area.

Remember: The most important thing you can do is reply. When a fan takes time to leave a comment on your wall or respond to a comment you’ve made, make sure to take the time to reply. Let them know you’re listening.
